Expressions of Interest welcomed for Legal Services and Complaints Committee
The Legal Practice Board is seeking Expressions of Interest for up to 10 legal practitioners who are not Board members, who may join the Legal Services and Complaints Committee (LSCC).
On behalf of the Board, the LSCC is responsible for dispute resolution and professional discipline of legal practitioners in Western Australia, under Chapter 5 of the Uniform Law. Following assessment and investigation into complaints and other professional conduct concerns, the LSCC may institute professional disciplinary proceedings against practitioners.
The Board aims to expand LSCC membership to include experience across a variety of areas of law, including family law, criminal law, estate matters and personal injury. They should represent a variety of legal firm sizes and geographical locations, as well as gender and other areas of diversity.
Prospective members should have a broad range of expertise and experience in legal practice, the provision of legal services and practice management, with a minimum 10 years post admission experience.
They must have familiarity with the challenges and aspirations of legal practice and the fulfilment of the inherent requirements of a legal practitioner. They should also understand the objectives of the Uniform Law to protect and empower consumers of legal services.
They should bring diverse perspectives and leadership, and support the Board’s Regulatory Approach.
