Legal practitioners

In Australia, the legal profession is regulated independently in each jurisdiction. In Western Australia, the legal profession is regulated by the Legal Practice Board under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (WA).

A person may be admitted as a lawyer in Australia by the Supreme Court by attaining accredited academic qualifications and practical legal training, and being a fit and proper person.

A legal practitioner who wishes to engage in legal practice solely as a barrister needs to complete a statutory period of supervised legal practice, and complete an approved bar reader’s course. Barristers generally join the WA Bar Association.
