Our Mission

To be an effective, efficient, and innovative regulator of legal services in Western Australia


Our Purpose

To advance the administration of justice and protect the public by:

  • regulating the competence and behaviour of legal practitioners in Western  Australia
  • enabling the effective operation of the Board and its committees.


Aim to have an engaged, active, competent and ethical legal profession

BY:

  • promoting competence, self-assessment and compliance with professional obligations
  • giving clear guidance about the Board's regulatory approach and expectations as to ethical behaviour
  • simplifying access to information and providing tools for best practice.

Aim to  be a trusted, relevant, innovative and expert public body

BY:

  • enhancing collaborative relationships with stakeholders to promote our mandate, core functions and strategic direction
  • making timely, fair, transparent and informed decisions
  • being responsive to change and anticipating development
  • using data to support a well-informed community and profession.


Aim for an efficient and effective administration

BY:

  • carefully managing our resources to maintain capacity, corporate knowledge and integrity
  • pursuing process improvements to better achieve our purpose
  • equipping staff with the skills to apply an approach proportionate to risk, directed to achieve best outcomes.

HOW ARE WE GOVERNED?

  • We are a statutory body established under Uniform Law.
  • Many of our operations are subject to scrutiny by the Ombudsman and the Public Sector Commission.
  • Many of our decisions are subject to rights of review in the State Administrative Tribunal and Supreme Court of Western Australia.
  • We provide annual reports to the Attorney General of WA.
  • Our vision and purpose are achieved through delegations, policies and standard procedures.
