The Legal Practice Board (Board) is established under the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2022 (Application Act). The Board has statutory responsibility for the regulation of all Western Australian legal practitioners. It also regulates the issue of annual practising certificates. The Board assists the Supreme Court in the process of admission to practice. The Board has delegated to the Legal Services and Complaints Committee, a Committee of the Board, the powers and functions under Chapter 5 of the Uniform Law, being matters concerning professional discipline.
Positive attendance, improved reporting and great feedback is encouraging the Legal Practice Board to increase its educational seminars for legal practitioners.
Matthew Howard SC was elected as the new Chair of the Legal Practice Board effective today, 28 April 2023. John Syminton was appointed as Deputy Chair at the Board’s meeting held on 5 April 2023.
Practitioners who hold a current Australian practising certificate will receive an email containing instructions on how to renew their Australian practising certificate on or after Friday, 28 April 2023.
Six new members joined the Legal Practice Board following the annual election which took place today, 4 April 2023. Their term of office is two years, beginning Wednesday 6 April 2023.
