Notice to the Profession - closure of the offices of the Legal Practice Board and Legal Profession Complaints Committee

26 Mar 2020

Due to the impact of COVID-19, on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 I decided to close the office of the Legal Practice Board and the Legal Profession Complaints Committee completely by COB on Friday, 27 March 2020 and that ALL staff will be working remotely.

Any decision to return to the office will be conducted in a phased and orderly fashion. Having said that it can realistically be expected that staff will be out of the office until after Easter and up to the end of April 2020.

A dedicated webpage has been set up on the Board’s website for COVID-19. Over the course of the next few days, weeks or months we will continue to provide updates and statements for the profession and public via this page. Some separate emails may be sent.

Statements regarding the renewal of practising certificates and the external examination of trust accounts, in amongst others, will be published on the website.

I strongly urge that you apply to renew your practising certificate between 1 and 31 May 2020. Delaying payment will be understood, but not an excuse for lodging the application late.

The Board membership election ballot papers were sent out on Wednesday. I have taken the step to send them to each practitioner’s home address so they are received, and hopefully returned. Please note this will require a stamp as Australia Post will deliver regardless, but unlikely within the voting time frame without a stamp. The election count will take place on 7 April and the Board meeting to follow will be held on 9 April to announce the results.

In terms of contacting us we encourage the use of email, though the phones are still working and diverted and we will also receive voicemails by email.

If you need to provide original documents to the Board, rather than deliver them please scan and email them to general@lpbwa.com and post the originals to PO Box  5720, Perth WA 6831

I do hope you all stay safe and well. This is untried territory and everyone is trying to keep everybody safe. If you need any further information please contact the Board.
