About the Law Libraries1. HISTORYThe Supreme Court Law Library was established in 1873 as the Law and Parliamentary library under the Law and Parliamentary Act. The collection was then divided, and in 1889, the law library had a separate identity. The Supreme Court building was opened in 1903 and the law library was housed in a specially designed chamber. In 1987 an extension to the Supreme Court building was completed and the Law Library was moved into the current location in the new wing. The Central Law Courts Branch Library was opened in 1982 as a reference library for practitioners appearing in the courts within the Central Law Courts building. Ownership of the Law Library resides with the Legal Practice Board. It is administered by the Board, in consultation with the Law Library Committee. The Committee is chaired by a Judge of the Supreme Court, currently Justice Hasluck.
